Greetings from the Texas Woman's University Department of Music. We hope that you and yours are staying safe and healthy through these trying times. To say that this semester and this year have been challenging would be an understatement. However, I can assure you that we here at TWU have been working hard each day to deliver the best experience possible for all of our students while maintaining everyone's safety.
One of the big changes we have encountered is the opportunity to offer live music for our friends. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we had to make the difficult decision to close all of our performances to the public. Many of you frequent our concerts in Margo Jones and no doubt are missing the opportunity to do so again this year. We hope to once again offer the opportunity for our friends and family to join us in live performances in the near future.
Many of our performances in a typical season are ticketed events. 100% of ticket sales for these events have gone directly to support the Music Scholarship Fund here at TWU. Since we will not have ticket sales this semester (and possibly the spring), we are facing a MAJOR shortfall in our ability to remain competitive in the scholarship arena with other institutions.
Here is a small sample of what your contribution will help support:
"The music scholarship I received from TWU has allowed me to focus on my academics instead of basic needs. The TWU Music Department offers a unique experience and has allowed me to grow in a healthy and supported fashion!" - Justen Williams (Music Performance - Trombone)
"The music scholarship I have received means so much to me. I am having to financially support myself through college, so having even a little bit of help goes a long way. This scholarship helps to reduce the stress and burden of having to pay for college alone." - Georgia Jahn (Music Therapy - Violin)
"My mom has always gone through financial hardships, and the music scholarship I received from TWU relieved that stress from my mom. Not only do I appreciate what the TWU Music Department see’s in me, but my mom does too. Obtaining these scholarships also reassured that my musical talent shouldn’t be wasted, and I could further expand it at TWU." - Sean Gist (Choral Music Education - Tenor)
“My music scholarship from TWU has allowed me to pursue my education without stress. The money has allowed me to focus on my musical education and I am thankful for the generous scholarship I received.” - Kristin Burnthorne (Music Performance - Piano)
"The TWU Music Department is one that consistently reflects the university motto of "Campus with a heart," as the faculty, staff, and students make it a welcoming, safe, and caring environment for all. The music scholarship has allowed me to attend school full-time where I am able to learn from renowned class faculty and meet peers who have the same passion as me in life, which is to change the lives of others through music. I am able to be a more successful scholar, musician, peer, and future music educator thanks to this scholarship on behalf of TWU Music." - Kevin Lopez (String Music Education - Violin)
“Support from anywhere in pursuing ones dream is fulfilling in and of itself, but support financially gives not only fulfillment but also peace of mind. I can follow my dreams without the fear of financial burdens, bumps, or roadblocks in the work towards earning my degree. This is what the music scholarship from TWU has allowed me to do." - Leah Pritchett (Music Therapy - Mezzo Soprano)
"The music scholarship I received from TWU was really a dream come true. Without it, starting my education this soon would have been impossible. On top of the validation I got from the offer, I found a community that welcomed me with open arms! TWU has really been a blessing." (Band Music Education - Saxophone)
This is where you come in! On Tuesday, December 1 - Giving Tuesday, as it has come to be known - we are calling on all TWU Friends of Music to consider making a donation (in any amount) to this worthy cause. Any and all support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your unwavering support of our students and department. Go Pioneers!
